Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center welcomes expecting families to our prenatal education classes, hosted by experienced local nurses. All classes are free to attend.

Postpartum Expectations & Planning: Having a new baby is an amazing experience but it can be challenging. In this class you will learn of the many challenges and changes that can happen when a new baby arrives. Have a real-world conversation about the physical, mental and emotional aspects of going home with a baby.

Class sizes vary by topic to ensure adequate time for questions and learning. Only one ticket is needed for both the expecting mom and one accompanying support person.

Pre-natal classes and support groups hosted by Northern Nevada Health System are for educational purposes only. Any questions specific to a patient’s medical condition should be addressed by their provider.

Support Groups

Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center welcomes moms to our newly formed support group! Sessions will be hosted by a lactation consultant and topics will include lactation, newborn care, post-partum care and more. Classes are held in the labor and delivery unit family conference room on the 4th floor of Sierra Medical Center.

Expectant parents and support people are welcome to tour the labor and delivery unit of Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center during weekly tours. Prenatal class attendees will also receive a tour after their session.

Tours start promptly at 5 p.m. at Sierra Medical Center located at 625 Innovation Drive in Reno. All attendees will use the elevator to meet the tour guide in the 4th floor lobby.

Movement and positioning in pregnancy: Learn how to work with your body and your baby through movement and positioning, which may help labor progress and increase comfort. In this class, you will learn tools for working with your partner during the laboring process.

Seminars and Lectures

Dr. Jane Ohde HeadshotJoin Jane Ohde, DO, general surgeon at Northern Nevada Medical Group, for a community lecture where she will discuss the common causes, risk factors and treatment options for acid reflux. Dinner will be provided and start at 5:45 p.m. with the program starting at 6 p.m. RSVP is required.

The lecture will take place in the small conference room at Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center, located at 6500 Longley Lane. From the hospital lobby, follow signage to the meeting room on the first floor.
