Region’s Third Freestanding Emergency Department Opens in Damonte Ranch

Sierra Medical Center (SMC) is expanding its footprint to meet the demand for accessible 24/7 emergency care with the opening of a new freestanding emergency department (FED) in Reno, Nev. The facility, the ER at Damonte Ranch, an extension of Sierra Medical Center, is located at 1041 Steamboat Parkway, next to Safeway in Damonte Ranch.

“The freestanding emergency department model allows our hospital to bring needed healthcare services closer to where residents live, and with the rapid growth in south Reno, the new ER at Damonte Ranch will support efficient and timely access to care,” said Chris Loftus, interim chief executive officer at Sierra Medical Center.

The ER at Damonte Ranch is Northern Nevada Health System’s third FED in the market. The ER at McCarran NW opened fall 2020 and the ER at Spanish Springs opened January 2023.

In the same manner as a hospital emergency department, the ER at Damonte Ranch treats a variety of emergency medical needs including heart attack, stroke, trauma conditions, lacerations, acute pain and other life-threatening conditions. If a patient requires a higher level of care, SMC will partner with local EMS providers to transport patients to an appropriate regional hospital.

The ER at Damonte Ranch is open 24/7 and will treat all ages from pediatrics to seniors. The facility features multiple treatment rooms, including fast-track exam rooms designed to efficiently triage low severity patients. Also offered is advanced diagnostic imaging including CT, X-Ray, ultrasound and lab draws.
