Sierra Medical Center Names Chief Executive Officer to Executive Hospital Leadership Team

The area’s newest acute care hospital, Sierra Medical Center (SMC), An Extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, has named Jordan Herget, FACHE, as Chief Executive Officer. Herget brings 20 years of executive healthcare experience and a total of 29 years in the healthcare industry. His background includes leading community hospitals, health plans and hospital networks across the country.

“On behalf of the local executive team, we are excited to welcome Jordan to this role,” said Karla Perez, Regional Vice President – Nevada Acute Care Division of Universal Health Services. “His vision for managing high-performing hospitals and enhancing patient safety will fit well in the market. Northern Nevada Health System has served the area for over 40 years, and we look forward to continuing the tradition of caring for local patients and maintaining nationally ranked quality standards.”

Jordan joins SMC from Portneuf Medical Center, an Ardent Health hospital, based in rural Idaho. He had served as the hospital’s President and CEO since 2020, managing the 205-bed facility that features various specialty services including a department of surgery and orthopedics, maternal-child health, emergency medicine and heart and vascular services. Jordan’s focus on clinical quality was instrumental in leading his team to earn The Leapfrog “A” for patient safety, among other awards for orthopedics, chest pain, stroke, lab and wound care. He is credited with leading a clinical optimization initiative to increase hospital capacity through strategic utilization, throughput and staff productivity.

Jordan earned a Master of Health Science in Health Finance and Management from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Sierra Medical Center opened in April 2022 and has aligned with the System’s mission of providing advanced care and access to healthcare in the communities we serve. The acute care hospital offers a variety of services including a 24/7 emergency department; The Family Birth Center, which offers 100% private birthing suites and postpartum rooms and a level II NICU; advanced cardiovascular services and structural heart program; and surgical services.
